Re: Yearlong County Contest
Methinks, Tony, that this is going to put you in the lead, even without the West Bonus...which, by your own agreement, you are okay going without. I do appreciate that, seeing as you already have a serious built-in advantage, and the bonus was proposed and adopted when Dave was the only one out there, in the contest, and I observed he needed some extra help.
This year is a bit tough with this contest, attempting, as best I can, to get the handicapping right.
Seeing as you have a unique advantage, I may even look into something to handicap you a bit more - depending on what the final stats look like - but for this year, we will just keep you as is, minus the West Bonus.
I do not know if you are okay with me actually broadcasting on the forum what your special advantage is, but I do know what it is, Markus informed me. Given that advantage you have, you are probably going to win this thing by a hell of a longshot and possible runaway, anyway.

Re: Yearlong County Contest
Kalisiin,
I'm ok with whatever rules you decide to have with the contest. I'd like to win, of course, but I don't want to run away with it. That takes all the fun out of it.
As for what I do for a living. . .I believe I've posted that on the forum a couple of times, but it's been awhile. And it's really no secret. I work for an airline. So when I trade with coworkers, I'm able to get my bills all over the country, and sometimes internationally. Most are happy to trade a few bills, some a lot. Many spend my bills at airports when they have a layover or have checked in for a flight and have some time to kill. Then they get handed out as change and God only knows where they go.
Anyway, whatever you decide is fine. I only have $10 "invested" in it. I'd rather have a race all year than a run away.

Thank you for understanding this, Tony. I feel the same way. I want a nice tight race all year, which is why I'm handicapping at all. Whoever wins, wins...I don't care. Like I said, if it's me...most of it is going back to Markus, anyway, in stamped TD bills, to support this site and all the awesome stuff he does for us.
Next year, I think what I will do is to use the current weighting only on contestants who are new that year and didn't play THIS year. for everyone else, I'll do an average against how many hits they got this year, so it will better reflect a real handicap, and come to a close race.
I'll handle it something like how they do a bowling handicap (I have been a league bowler for years) where you get like, 80% or 90% of 200 - and players will be handicapped that way. This makes things much closer...but those with higher totals from last year will gain the slight advantage of being more likely to repeat.
I'll have to knock it around some.
Re: Yearlong County Contest
I'll have Union County, NJ for myself!! I was wondering when I'd get this one...my mom works here!
She Appleseeds loads of bills for me.

As would I. But this year is gonna be tough. Because I have really nothing to work from, and I am trying to handicap. Next year, will be a lot better, because I can handicap the way they do horse-races...based on previous performance. we would use the weighting scales ONLY for new entrants without a previous record...and everyone else would be handicapped based on last years performance...and that way...those people's weighting would remain the same all year, instead of fluctuating...as they are this year. It will create a lot less work, and I believe a much tighter contest next year.
Re: Yearlong County Contest
y. No go on Prince William. Markus beat you to it. You have to check not only the Spreadsheet...but posts that have been made since last Spreadsheet update.dctim wrote:I am claiming the following:

Re: Yearlong County Contest
Map Update happening now.
I have changed my color from the purple I was using to pink...so as to save a purple color for any potential new candidate in our contest. I am a minority in being female here, so I knew I wouldn't mind having a "girly" color like pink...someone else might.
UPDATE: Map update completed.
