Useful county map page

Post  Alan From Rochester on Sun Dec 06, 2015 11:26 pm

Found this when looking for county maps, something from the Census Bureau with maps of every state - county outlines and names in black, capital and largest city in orange

Being a US Federal Government source, it's public domain.

I've seen some of the maps before and now I know the source.

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/printmaps.html - individual downloads
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/mapdownload.html, http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/state-maps.zip - combined download

Their filenames are stout##, which I changed to the state abbreviation. I added a Puerto Rico municipality map from Wikipedia. For some reason the Colorado map had a very high filesize which was fixed when I opened and saved it. I also made a simple HTML page that shows them in alphabetical order by abbreviation. Here's my collection: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/g3c830cck344r/CountyMaps

Since this is a valuable topic, I'm adding a link I have in another thread:

ArcGIS site - where you can zoom in to see if counties connect.
