Re: Cooperative County Challenge - March/April 2013 Hits
UPDATE:
Tim, Your suggestion has been implemented. A very good idea.
For now, I have only done this for Alaska - the other states will follow.
Your formula didn't quite work out on EditGrid...for some reason Count and Counta returned the same results on EditGrid...so your formula always resulted in 100%
Count DID return the numbe of filled in Counties however.
So I had to alter your formula and do the following: =count(C2:C30)/29
The last number will change accrding to how many Counties are in the state. Likewise, the inside-the-parenthesis numbers will change in accord with how many counties that state has.
I may actually choose to move this total up to the TOP line in each state - let me know if you think that would be a good idea.
Additionally, I apologize for the lack of an update as yet, however, my mother (Tracker yellowrose) is in the hospital - so I have been spending much of my spare time there...and handling her financial affairs while she is in there. She is expected to make it out of there tomorrow...and once things get back to normal here, I will do a full update. For now, I will just implement the percentages.

Thanks for the updates - hope yellowrose feels better soon.
The formula at the top sounds okay to me and will look at it when I get a chance.

Just brought her home from the hospital.
The formula works. I tested it with a calculator to see if it came up with the answer it was supposed to, and it did.
Update: I decided to move this information to the top of each state.
Re: Cooperative County Challenge - March/April 2013 Hits
All states have now been done with Percentages at the top of each state in the Spreadsheet.
Thanks for the idea, tim...and for the mechanics of how to do it!

Wow, Tim. 7 miles would get me to Phoenix, Scottsdale, or Mesa. Nowhere near getting me out of the county.

In Arizona, Tony, you have Counties bigger in land area than entire STATES back East!
Re: Cooperative County Challenge - March/April 2013 Hits
That's what I'm getting at. Counties here are huge. Small countries in other parts of the world.

That's because, when the Counties were drawn, almost no one lived in a lot of the big ones out West. they didn't want to put everyone in their own individual Counties, LOL.
You got a lot of landmass in your Counties...but not many more people in each one than we do.
New Jersey, for example, averages 1100 people per square mile.
9 million people crammed into 21 counties. in Arizona, you got Counties bigger than the entire state of New Jersey.
But, about 400,000 people in each NJ County. Probably similar numbers in Arizona Counties.

The only city over 100k outside of the Phoenix metro area is Tucson, though Yuma is close. The percentages are the end of each counties population is the growth since the last census in 2000. These stats are from 2010.
Outside of these metro areas there isn't much for civilization. Very few people and lots of untouched land.
