Actually, I did too get that same error a couple times today. But doing a browser refresh a couple times brought Trackdollar up.
Sometimes, that message means TD is down...other times, you just have to refresh. If you refresh a couple times and still get nothing, it's probably on TD's end...otherwise, it is just the need to refresh once in a while...no idea why this happens.
Re: Error?
Thanks for the help. I was worried there was something wrong with my account.

It just happened because Markus was fixing something. Hits were not generating text/email notifications.
It's back online now.
Re: Error?
Hello,
I did an update this morning blocking a spider from China. This crawler would not follow the robots.txt rules and since TrackDollar creates dynamic html files with constantly chaning content (session info in file), this spider would try to read same file again and again, and this at the same time from 255 different IPs. Annoying thing, did use lots of bandwidth and had sometimes all sessions in use.
Well, the China search engine is blocked now, should not hurt TrackDollar that much ;-)
Hopefully all fixed now.

Re: Error?
So why are they trying to get into trackdollar anyway? Do they think they are going to steal money or something? Maybe info? I don't see what they could do with it anyway? Would going to an https be better or would that cost more? Seems a little extreme but it would keep some hackers out, I just don't know what the technical and financial part of it would be?Admin wrote:Hello,

Re: Error?
Matt,
a spider software is what all search provider out there are using. Google has one, yahoo has one. They normally come by once a day, scan your whole site and read the keywords etc to add you to there search database.
Webmaster can create a robots.txt file where they can control the search engines, like which one are allowed to come in, limits on files, and how often they are allowed to read your site.
This baiduspider however scans your site constantly, what is most likely a bug on their software. Also it does not care about the rules in robots.txt

Re: Error?
Oh thanks for the clarification I was thinking it was similar to a spybot thing but I guess not. So these spiders are usually a helpful thing, this one just became harmful due to an error in their programming. Got ya.Admin wrote:Matt,

Re: Error?
Having some TD site problems again (1:30 pm today). I have already emailed Markus about it, so hopefully he can get the services restarted quickly.
