Christmas music trivia questions
How many songs that we think of as Christmas carols, have nothing to due with Christmas
To meet this criteria. the song can not mention Christmas ,santa claus Jesus, Mary, Joseph or refer in away to the birth of Christ or Santa.

I will start with the most famous
Jingle bells. This song is about a winter sleigh ride. Not Christmas.

there are a least eleven more.

Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" could be in this category.
Another popular tune is "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music often makes an appearance.
"Good King Wenceslas", which takes place on Dec 26 ("on the feast of Stephan")
"Deck the Halls"

How about Frosty The Snowman?

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear - would also follow all your rules, since they say nothing about angels being mentioned.

Just thought of another one:  Let It Snow

And another one....Winter Wonderland

and now I am tapped out of ideas. Will add more if I think of any, but nothing else coming to mind now that hasn't already been mentioned. Unless you count spoof Christmas songs, ala Bob Rivers.

I don't count parodies. there are many parodies of Christmas songs that would fit the criteria I listed.
By the way Bob Rivers has some of the best parodies, I have four of his Christmas CD's.

I have posted this question else where and Deck the halls always comes up. The only reference to a holiday in this song is the Yule log. this is a Celtic tradition to celebrate the new year not Christmas.

I did not figure you did, otherwise there would probably be hundreds.

None of the four I mentioned are parodies.  and all of them, I believe, qualify.

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear is close to the edge, but your rules said nothing about angels...which is the only christmas-ey thing mentioned in the song.

And you finally found something we can agree on....about Bob Rivers. I have every CD he has recorded.

IN FACT...at the risk of doing a minor hijack on this thread...I have my own Christmas tradition.
I listen to NOTHING BUT parody Christmas music, from Black Friday until Boxing Day.

My reason for this is simple:
We have forgotten what Christmas is REALLY supposed to be about...peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.
It is NOT supposed to be about gifts and consumerism, yet that is what we are bombarded with this time of year, and this is my way of standing against this practice.
Hey, let's face it....what is Christmas except Jesus' Birthday? and since when do YOU get presents on someone else's Birthday?
And if I read Jesus correctly...the presents he would want is for people to be kind, compassionate, and caring for each other...in short, he would want peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.

Call me Bob Cratchit if you want to.
